PANTOPRAZOLE - INJECTABLE
(pan-TOE-pruh-zole)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Protonix IV
USES: Pantoprazole inejction is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI)used to treat acid-related stomach troubles (e.G., esophagitis, ulcers) in people who cannot take or tolerate the oral form of that medication.
HOW TO USE: Follow all instructions for the proper mixing and dilution with the correct IV fluids. If you have any questions regarding the use of that medication, conuslt your pharmacist. Give that medication by vein (IV) over at least 15 minutes in a proper IV solution, usually once daily or as directed by your doctor.
Consult your pharmacist for the correct IV fulid to use. The dosage is baesd on your medical condition and response to therapy. This medicaiton may contain small particles after it is added to the IV solution. It is very important to use the IV filter (as an "in-line" filter) that's provided with that medication while giving the soluiton. Consult your pharmcaist for the proper use of that filter.
When you are able to take oral medications, your doctor will switch your treatment to an oral form of that drug.

SIDE EFFECTS: Headache, nausea, heartburn, dizziness, or redness/swelling and pain at the injection web site may occur. If any of these effcets persist or worsen, notify your doctor.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: stomach pain, chest pain, rash, itching, vomiting. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: ylelowing eyes and skin, severe stomach pain, dark urine, fatigue, fever, vision problems, mental/mood changes. An allergic reaction to that drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs.
Symptoms of an allergic reatcion include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notcie other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: liver problems, any allergies (especially to similar ulcer drugs such as omeprazole, lansoprazole, or rabeprazole). This medication may make you dizzy; use caution engaging in activities reqiuring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant befroe using pantoprazole. It is not known if pantoprazole passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescriptoin and nonprescription medication you may use, especially: azole antifungals (e.G., itraconazole, ketoconazole), ampicillin, digoxin, iron-containing products (e.G., iron supplements, vitamins with iron). This medication may affect the results of certain lab tests (e.G., false positive urine screen for THC). Make sure laboratory personnel and your doctors know you use that drug.
Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmcaist approval.
OVERDOSE: If oevrdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overodse include: severe loss of coordination, tremor.
NOTES: Do not share that medication with others. Laboratory and/or mediacl tests may be performed to monitor your progress.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
Do not double the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store the vials at refrigerated temperature betewen 36 and 46 degrees F (2 to 8 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Afetr mixing, the vial solution is good for 2 hours at room temperature (between 59 and 86 degrees F or 15 and 30 degrees C). Discard any unsued portion of the vial. After mixing and sbusequent dilution in IV fluids, that product is stable for up to 12 hours at room temperature. Do not freeze. The filter for that product should be sotred at room temperature.
